| OPERATION MOSES: Airlift of Ethiopian Jews by E.M. Stover |
| Operation Moses began on November 18, 1984, and ended six weeks later on January 5, 1985. In that time, almost 8,000 Jews were rescued from Ethiopia and brought to Israel. The Israeli government secretly arranged an airlift to rescue Ethiopian Jews who had escaped a two fold evil: The oppression of the communist regime and the famine which threatened starvation. Under the cloak of secrecy, Belgin Airlines flew the Ethiopians to cities in Europe and then to Israel. OPERATION MOSES is also part of the fulfillment of the Prophetic Word, "For I will take you from among the nations, gather you out of all countries, and bring you into our own land" [Ezekiel 36:24]. This reminds us of the vision which the prophet Ezekiel received, Then He said unto me, "Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel; They indeed say, Our bones are dry, our hope is lost, and we ourselves are cut off! Therefore prophesy and say to them, 'Thus says the L-rd G-d: "Behold, O My people, I will open your graves and cause you to come up from your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. Then shall you know that I am the L-rd, when I have opened your graves, O My people, and brought you up from your graves. I will put My Spirit in you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I, the L-rd, have spoken it and performed it," says the L-rd.'" [Ezekiel 37:11-14]. This is also in fulfillment of G-d's Word. Psalm 147:2 says, "The L-rd builds up Jerusalem: He gathers together the outcasts of Israel." What an awesome wonder it is for our generation to witness G-d's Holy Word of prophecy unfolding right before our eyes. The ingathering of the Jews from all nations has already begun. But, this trickling stream is nothing compared to the oceans of peoples who will be ingathered from the north country and from all the countries where our L-RD G-D had driven them. In that day, nature itself will help pave the way for G-D's people to return back to the Land.
